The Lagos State Government has revealed plans for nighttime traffic diversion on Friday and Saturday nights, specifically on September 1st and September 2nd, between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily. This temporary alteration in traffic flow is essential to facilitate the repair of the recently damaged truck barrier on the National Stadium Bridge.
Mr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday.
The damaged truck barrier, located on the National Stadium Bridge along Funsho Williams Avenue, necessitates prompt repair to ensure the safety of commuters. During the scheduled diversion, alternative routes will be provided for motorists to minimize disruptions.
Toriola outlined the diversions for various categories of motorists: “Motorists travelling from Eko Bridge/Constain/Iponri en route to Ojuelegba/Alhaji Masha Road will be rerouted to the service lane from Alaka via the National Stadium gate, enabling them to connect to Barracks or Alhaji Masha Road and continue their journeys.”
He continued, “Motorists coming from Eko Bridge via Costain and those proceeding from Apapa Road towards Iponri will use the Iponri Estate road to link Bode Thomas via Adeniran Ogunsanya to Shitta Roundabout, allowing them to reach their intended destinations.”
Toriola also appealed to motorists for their patience, reassuring them that the brief bridge closure has been carefully planned for nighttime as part of a traffic management strategy aimed at preventing further accidents and preserving lives. The Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of all road users.
