In a tribute to years of dedicated service, the Lagos State Government disbursed a total of N2.017 billion in retirement benefits to 644 retirees on Wednesday. The announcement was made by Mr. Babalola Obilana, the Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), during the 101st batch Retirement Bond Certificate presentation for retirees within the state.
This significant payment corresponds to the past service benefits accumulated by the retirees prior to the launch of the Contributory Pension Scheme in 2007. Obilana underscored that this event was not merely a procedural formality; rather, it stood as a moment of recognition and appreciation for the retirees’ profound contributions, dedication, and talents that have enriched the legacy of Lagos State.
Addressing the retirees, Obilana expressed, “This retirement bond certificate presentation holds a deeper meaning beyond its financial value. It symbolises the trust and belief we hold in our retirees. It signifies the enduring impact you have left, as your commitment has formed the bedrock of our vision for a greater Lagos State.”
In an acknowledgement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s steadfast commitment to the well-being of the public service workforce, Mr. Olawale Musa, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions, commended the government’s unwavering support for retirees even as they transition into a new phase of life.
Musa advised the retirees to prudently manage their funds and make well-informed choices regarding investment opportunities. He encouraged them to engage with LASPEC or the ministry for pension-related inquiries or additional clarifications.
In closing, Musa saluted the retirees for their exceptional contributions, emphasizing their pivotal roles in shaping the developmental trajectory of Lagos State. He expressed his hopes that the retirees’ next chapter would be marked by happiness, fulfilment, and fresh experiences.
