Nigerian Army rescues another Borno Chibok girl

The Nigerian Army announced on Monday that it had successfully rescued another Chibok girl, Mary Nkeki, aged 27, from Dikwa Local Government Area in Borno.

Nkeki was abducted in 2014 alongside more than 200 students from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok by Boko Haram insurgents.

Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, shared this information during the formal handover of the girl to the Borno Ministry of Women Affairs on Monday in Maiduguri.

He revealed that Nkeki, who held the serial number 55 on the list of abducted Chibok girls, was rescued by troops of the 81 Task Force Battalion on August 14th in Dikwa.

“During her captivity, she was forcibly married to an individual named Adam, a Boko Haram terrorist fighter,” Chibuisi stated.

“Following her rescue, she has undergone comprehensive medical assessments at our medical facility. Additionally, she has been properly cared for and will be handed over to the Borno State Government for further support,” he confirmed.

Chibuisi assured that the military remains steadfast in its commitment to securing the northeast and reestablishing enduring peace in the region.

Speaking to journalists about her experiences since her abduction in 2014, Nkeki recounted enduring tremendous suffering. She shared that she managed to escape with her husband during the night and was subsequently rescued by a military patrol team.
