NLNG: Operations Continue Despite Force Majeure

Nigeria LNG Ltd. (NLNG) has affirmed that its operations at the Bonny Island plant remain underway, notwithstanding the ongoing Force Majeure status. This action is in response to major liquids evacuation pipelines being unavailable due to acts of sabotage and vandalism. The company assured that these challenges have not halted its overall functioning.

In a statement released on Friday, Mr. Andy Odeh, the General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, clarified the situation. The statement addressed a recent report published on August 17, 2023, titled “NLNG Prolonged Shutdown Threatens Gas Production,” which was featured in a national newspaper.

NLNG refuted the accuracy of this report, deeming it both false and misleading.

“The plant continues to produce LNG and LPG in alignment with the feed gas it receives from its upstream gas suppliers. Furthermore, the cargo loading operations proceed without disruption. The most recent cargo dispatched from the Bonny plant set sail on August 17, 2023, destined for St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. This shipment carried a substantial 140,000 cubic metres of LNG,” the statement emphasised.

Odeh affirmed NLNG’s dedication to collaborating with pivotal stakeholders in order to minimise the repercussions stemming from the resulting gas supply scarcity.
