Badagry-West Chairman Distributes 7,000 Food Packs to Ease Subsidy Removal Impact

Mr. Joseph Gbenu, Chairman of Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has taken action to alleviate the effects of petrol subsidy removal by distributing 7,000 food packs to residents. The distribution, which took place in Apa and Kankon areas of the town, aimed to support vulnerable community members, particularly the elderly.

Gbenu expressed his motivation for the initiative, stating that he wanted to directly benefit those in need within their own neighbourhoods. He highlighted that he had already visited numerous communities in the Asipha and Seme areas, providing 3,000 food items and monetary assistance to residents.

“I am reaching out to different communities within Badagry-West LCDA, offering food items and cash to the elderly and vulnerable. This gesture aims to mitigate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal. By engaging at the grassroots level, I believe we can make a meaningful difference,” Gbenu remarked.

Each food pack contained essential items such as Semovita, rice, beans, and garri. Additionally, beneficiaries received N5,000 in cash to cover transportation expenses and purchase other necessities.

Gbenu assured the community of his commitment to this cause, with plans to extend the distribution to Asheri and other communities. The Supervisor Councillor of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Sesi Ogungbe-Yusuf, also announced that these food distributions would become a monthly occurrence, aiming to support and uplift the vulnerable.

Amidst the challenges posed by the subsidy removal, beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support provided. A 70-year-old resident, Mr. Ajose Hunpe, shared that the food pack would sustain his family for several days. He extended his blessings to Chairman Gbenu for his efforts.

Mrs. Ayinke Oke, another beneficiary at 68 years old, expressed her gratitude and offered prayers for Chairman Gbenu’s well-being and the continued success of the council.
