Lagos State Advances Water Transport with Innovative E-Fleet System

The Lagos State Government is ushering in a new era of technology-driven water transportation through the introduction of the Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) Electronic Fleet (E-Fleet) Surveillance System.

In a statement issued by Mr. Akeem Odusina, Director of the Public Affairs Unit of LAGFERRY, the move aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda, a strategic plan to enhance sustainable water transportation as a reliable component within the Multi-Modal Public Transportation Systems, integrating rail, road, and water.

The E-Fleet Surveillance System, also known as E-Fleet, employs real-time technology to track ferries and provide crucial information, including boat location, speed, condition, and surroundings. This advanced data enables LAGFERRY to monitor and manage its fleet around the clock, ensuring passenger safety, improving ridership, and optimising fuel management.

Highlighting the significance of this milestone, Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, Managing Director of LAGFERRY, emphasised its role in establishing an efficient, modern water transportation system. The technology contributes to reducing road congestion, enhances emergency response, and bolsters public confidence in water travel.

Balogun noted that the E-Fleet system’s comprehensive data capture spans water traffic, boat performance, weather conditions, and other vital insights. The dedicated control center, situated at the agency’s Operation Base at Mile 2 Terminal, is staffed by proficient professionals who ensure constant monitoring and management.

The E-Fleet system underscores the state administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for private sector investment and setting industry standards. LAGFERRY’s expansion efforts have been ongoing since its commercial relaunch in February 2020, elevating water transportation infrastructure in Lagos.”
