Four underage girls were rescued from a motel situated in Totomu village, near the border of Lagos and Ogun states, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos Command announced on Monday.
Mr. Usman Alfadarai, the Corps Commander, revealed that the motel was raided at approximately 11:53 a.m. on August 11. The operation was conducted by the Corps’ Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, prompted by reliable intelligence and sustained surveillance.
The investigation uncovered that the motel was entangled in the exploitation of underage girls for purposes of prostitution and child labour, all in exchange for incentives.
“Four victims, aged between 15 and 17, were successfully liberated from the premises,” stated Alfadarai, who also noted the apprehension of a female suspect.
The arrested suspect, along with the rescued victims, will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation, Alfaradai confirmed.
In a separate incident on the same day, the Corps’ Patrol Team deployed to safeguard the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipelines effectively thwarted an attempted act of vandalism in Idimu, Lagos.
The apprehended suspect is slated to face legal proceedings following the investigation’s conclusion, as Alfadarai asserted.
