A mosque collapse in Zaria, Nigeria, has killed eight people and injured seven others.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when worshippers were gathered for evening prayers.
Eyewitnesses said that a section of the mosque’s wall collapsed, trapping those who were sitting underneath.
The victims were killed instantly, while the injured were taken to the hospital.
The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Nuhu Bamali, has expressed shock over the incident and prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead.
He said that they had noticed a crack in the wall of the mosque on Thursday, and were making arrangements to repair it.
However, the collapse occurred before the repairs could be carried out.
The Emir has directed all worshippers to pray outside the mosque until the repairs are completed.
The Kaduna State Governor, Ubah Sani, has also expressed shock over the incident and sent his condolences to the victims and their families.
A delegation has been sent to the affected area to provide assistance.
The cause of the collapse is still being investigated, but experts have blamed similar incidents in the past on poor building materials and unprofessionalism.
This is the latest in a series of building collapses in Nigeria. In recent months, there have been collapses in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.
The government has pledged to take action to prevent future collapses, but experts say that more needs to be done to ensure the safety of buildings in Nigeria.
