The Eredo Local Council Development Area in Lagos State has just launched a heartwarming food bank initiative to help soften the blow of the petrol subsidy removal for its residents.
During the inauguration event held on a Thursday in Eredo-Epe, the chairman, Mr. Monsuru Akinloye, shared that the main aim of this project is to stand by the residents by providing them with essential food items.
Akinloye mentioned that the council has planned to distribute these food items every month to the people living in the area. This approach is intended to bring some relief in the face of the recent decision by the Federal Government to remove petrol subsidies, which has created added challenges for the residents.
Akinloye firmly believed that the removal of petrol subsidies is a step in the right direction. He encouraged the local residents to exercise patience during this tough period, ensuring them that it’s a phase that will pass. He reassured everyone that the council is fully committed to ensuring that hunger and unnecessary suffering are kept at bay in the community.
Even though Akinloye acknowledged that the council might not be able to fulfill all the food requirements of the residents, he promised that they will do their utmost to ensure that no one in the area goes to sleep on an empty stomach.
Akinloye also outlined the variety of food items that will be handed out. These include staples like rice, beans, vegetable oil, palm oil, cassava, and more, all to be distributed to households across the area.
Furthermore, he stated that this thoughtful food distribution scheme will continue running in the region until the economy regains stability, showing a steadfast commitment to supporting the community for the long haul.
As he wrapped up, the chairman expressed his gratitude for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s people-centered initiatives and unwavering dedication to bringing the benefits of democracy to the local population.
