Seven people have been rescued and two killed in a multiple road accident involving two trucks and six cars in Lagos.
The accident happened on Wednesday morning at Alaka inward Stadium, when a blue articulated Mack truck with unknown registration number reportedly suffered brake failure while descending the bridge and crashed into the vehicles in front of it.
Two people, an adult female and an adult male, were killed in the accident. Seven others, three adult males and two adult females, were injured and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Yaba, for treatment. Three other women were not injured.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded to the accident and rescued the victims. The agency’s Paramedics also provided first aid treatment to the injured before they were taken to the hospital.
The LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who commiserated with the families of the victims, urged drivers to be cautious and ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey.
The accident vehicles have been towed to the LASEMA Yard in Iponri, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the State Environmental and Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU). The bridge has also been reopened to traffic.
The LASEMA Response Team was assisted at the scene by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Nigeria Police.
