In a resounding endorsement of its significance, the Africa Social Impact Summit 2023 is set to feature the presence of prominent global figures, including the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed.
This revelation comes through a statement released by Mrs Olapeju Ibekwe, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sterling One Foundation, on Tuesday in Lagos.
The summit, organized by Sterling One Foundation and co-convened by the United Nations Nigeria, is strategically crafted to tackle urgent developmental challenges through collaborative efforts.
With the theme “Global Vision, Local Action: Repositioning the African Development Ecosystem for Sustainable Outcomes,” the summit is scheduled to transpire on August 10th and 11th, both at the Eko Convention Centre and through online platforms.
Ibekwe emphasised that this congregation epitomises a commitment to ushering in positive transformation across Africa, facilitated by the gathering of influential leaders, thought-provoking speakers, and impact investors.
Among the distinguished speakers, Abubakar Suleiman, MD/CEO of Sterling Bank, Joyce Banda, former president of Malawi, Matthias Schmale, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, and Professor Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, Senior Special Adviser on Industrialisation to the President of the African Development Bank, will provide their insights.
Of particular note, Oyelaran-Oyeyinka will lead discussions encompassing key thematic domains, including WASH, Climate Action, Circular Economy, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Education, and Health.
These discussions are anticipated to illuminate pathways for channelling impactful investments into Africa, whilst concurrently enacting solutions to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The summit’s focus on impact investments in Africa is set to be a pivotal discourse. Joined by over 50 African leaders from both public and private sectors, Amina Mohammed, Abubakar Suleiman, Joyce Banda, Matthias Schmale, and Professor Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka will engage in in-depth deliberations, aligning strategies with the SDGs 2030 agenda.
This collective assemblage will illustrate how the private sector and impact investors can wield a transformative role in expediting positive outcomes, asserted Ibekwe.
The Africa Social Impact Summit stands poised to foster inter-sectoral alliances, propel influential initiatives, and chart a course towards a more sustainable future.
“As we rally under the banner of change, this summit pledges to unlock inventive solutions, addressing Africa’s most immediate challenges and hastening the SDGs,” declared Ibekwe.
