Empowering Hope: Grooming Centre and Sesor Foundation Join Forces to Support Nigeria’s Displaced Women

Two Nigerian non-profit organizations, Grooming Centre and Sesor Empowerment Foundation, have renewed their partnership to support Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria. The partnership, which has been in place since 2014, has helped to provide relief, rehabilitation, and advocacy for IDPs in Benue and Lagos states.

In 2023, Grooming Centre is donating N20.740 million to support Sesor’s work with IDPs. These funds will be used to support relief outreaches in Benue state, provide food, water, and medical supplies to IDPs; fund IDP safe spaces for wellness and health programs, providing a safe space for IDPs to access essential services; and provide entrepreneurship training, mentoring, and livelihood support funds for 200 women in Lagos who have been impacted by displacement and crises.

Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, CEO of Grooming Centre, said that the organization is committed to helping those who have been displaced. “We commend Sesor’s commitment since 2014 to our displaced brothers and sisters and hope that this helps to alleviate some of the challenges they face even as we look forward to an end to the security and other challenges displacing citizens,” he said.

Ms. Ier Jonathan-Ichaver, Executive Director of Sesor, said that the renewed partnership with Grooming Centre is a testament to their shared commitment to helping IDPs. “I am excited by the continued support we get from Grooming Centre especially in these trying times. More so that the support has increased from N17 million last year to over N20 million this year. This is a testament to the Grooming Centre’s continued commitment to Nigerian women,” she said.
