Nigeria’s Under 19 male cricket squad will tour India before competing in the ICC World Cup Africa Division One qualifiers.
The squad’s coach, Daniel Gim, in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday said that the team hoped to leave the nation on May 18.
“We resumed camp in Abuja on Sunday ahead of the Indian tour.
“We have 16 players in camp and we hope that all players can make it to India.
“The aim is to expose the players and prepare them adequately for the U-19 World Cup qualifiers in July in Tanzania.
“After spending about two weeks in India, we will be back home hopefully, to continue with further preparations for the qualifiers,” Gim said.
In the Division two qualifiers in Abuja in 2022, the squad came second behind Kenya, with Sierra Leone finishing third out of the six teams that competed.
“This means the trio qualified to the Division one where they face Namibia, Uganda and hosts Tanzania for a sole ticket to the World Cup in Sri Lanka 2024,” he said.
Nigeria has previously qualified for her maiden World Cup, which will be held in South Africa in 2020.
