Afrobeats artists should receive greater respect than they now do, according to Nigerian musician Olabisi Omokolade Oluwatoyin, better known by his stage name TY Buoyant. This is in light of the success that the genre has gained on a global scale.
Afrobeats music from other continents deserves the same attention and global recognition, according to European musician TY Buoyant, even though songs from Africa are now enjoying greater popularity.
“Growing up I was listening to a number of artists but the likes of Fela, 2Baba and PSquare really influenced me”
“Their music meant so much and also changed a whole lot globally to give us what we are enjoying today”
“I feel that beyond having a category in the Grammys and other awards, we have something special going on in Afrobeats and I am going to lend my voice to make it louder”, he said,
In a few weeks, the song “Hold Me” by TY Buoyant will be released, and the singer also said that the song will also feature an official music video.
While he acknowledged that performing Afrobeat in Africa differs from doing so in Europe, he also asserted that as a result of the Afrobeat Globalization initiative, African music fans will begin to support and value artists from other continents.
“If Afrobeats is to become the global brand we envision, it must be welcomed everywhere. The same way that our music is played everywhere we go, and it’s only going to get better from here.
“Radio stations, the media, and awards should also include artists from outside of Africa, as we are doing the same and giving a fair amount of support to the Afrobeat gospel,”
We need people to work really hard, as I am doing here in Europe, and we will finally get there,”
“I want to travel to a number of places, including back to Africa, with “Hold Me.”
“I want to appreciate music like I used to as a child and I also want to see my mother happy of me after all the work she put into making me a better person,” he said.
