As part of its goal to distribute free Bibles, the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) reports that in 2022, it donated various bibles totalling 16.7 million naira.
This information can be found in a statement authored by Mr. Benjamin Mordi, BSN, Manager, Media and Public Relations Officer, and provided to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.
According to the statement, 137 complete sets of Braille Bibles that were given to those with visual impairments cost 6.9 million naira, compared to 9.8 million naira for Bibles donated to the sighted.
“This action is consistent with the Society’s objective to make the Holy Bible accessible to Nigerians in their preferred languages and formats and assist people in engaging with the word of God through initiatives to improve their lives.
“Prisoners, churches, Christian societies and organisations, blind schools, and other groups were among those who benefited from the free Bible distribution.
The statement stated that the cost of the entire set of the 37-volume Braille Bible is 50,000 naira.
It states that the group funded the free distribution programme using contributions from the Bible-A-Month Club, Special Members, corporate entities, churches, and individual donations for the Braille Bible initiative (You Can Be Their Eyes YCBTE).
The BSN has allegedly continued to dismantle every known obstacle that prevents individuals from accessing the Word of God through free Bible distribution and other admirable initiatives, according to the statement.
The BSN is an interdenominational, not-for-profit Christian organisation that distributes, publishes, and generates money for Bible work in addition to translating the Bible into local languages.
The organisation has completed the full translation of the Bible into 27 Nigerian languages, and work on the revision and translation of the Bible in 10 additional Nigerian languages is still ongoing.
