PSG announce Neymar’s season-ending ankle surgery

Neymar will miss the rest of the season due to ankle surgery, according to Monday’s announcement from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a French club.

The Brazilian has not played since injuring his ankle in the 4-3 victory against Lille in February.

Neymar won the Ligue 1 match against Nantes 4-2 as club head coach Christophe Galtier announced last week that he would not play.

According to him, the attacker will also be sidelined for Bayern Munich’s 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg matchup on Wednesday.

Since that Neymar won’t be able to play for the next three to four months, a comeback this season is no longer expected.

A statement read: “Neymar Jr has witnessed several episodes of right ankle instability in recent years.

“Following his last sprain contracted on Feb. 20, the PSG medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation, in order to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted confirmed this need.

“This surgery will be performed in the coming days at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha.

“A delay of three to four months is expected before his return to collective training.”

Since the 2018–19 season, Neymar has been having his most successful season with PSG, contributing to 34 direct goals (18 goals, 16 assists) across all competitions.

After the 44 in his rookie season, this is joint-second-highest in his PSG career.
