With their victory in a coding competition against 178 other schools countrywide, ten students from the Federal Government College in Ijanikin, Lagos, have put their institution on the map of academic excellence.
In addition, the achievement has elevated the school to third place out of 30 participating African nations in the most recent African Code Challenge.
When contacted by phone on Sunday in Lagos, the college’s principal, Ms. Tofunmi Akamo, confirmed the news to NAN.
She remarked how proud she was of the students’ accomplishment, calling it a touching development for the college’s staff, students, and alumni.
In the developing field of coding and other areas of information communications technology, Akamo claimed that the young people had given rise to optimism that Nigeria will one day dominate the globe.
She praised the federal government for fostering a supportive atmosphere that allowed college students to compete at the continental and national levels.
The school’s team also worked on a project with the theme “Chase N’ Recycle” for the competition in 2022, the principal said, promising that the students would never give up on bringing honor to Nigeria.
She revealed that in the competition, which was held in late last year, Nigeria, which was represented by two teams from the Federal Government Ijanikin, placed third and Madagascar took first place, followed by Mauritius and Nigeria.
The members of the college’s first team are Chidozirim Ejiogu, Praise Olugbenro, Ikram Babs-Lawal, Ayodeji Taiwo-Taiwo, and Honourable Olutoye.
