Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, a pioneer in Nigeria’s entertainment sector and the creator of the esteemed AMAA Awards, has passed away.

After being in a coma since Saturday, she reportedly passed away at St. Nicolas Hospital in Lagos.

While her coworkers and close friends, some of whom visited her in the hospital, refused to believe the news of her death, insisting that she was just in the ICU, renowned filmmaker Zik Zulu broke the news.

“Our President, Peace, has passed. As at Saturday, she was reported to be in coma at Saint Nicholas. But now her family has confirmed her transition. May the memory of her life be a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Peace.”

In spite of the family’s best efforts to be reserved in disclosing the news, award-winning producer Obi Emelonye also acknowledged her passing on via his social media accounts.

Since her contributions to the industry cannot be overstated, the hardworking woman would go down in history as one of those who helped to create the new Nollywood.

In addition to founding the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Peace Anyiam-Osigwe served as president of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) and was a well-known figure in Nollywood.
