Speaker Obasa calls for prayers for peaceful and successful elections in 2023.

Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged Nigerians to keep praying for the peaceful and successful conduct of the general elections in February.

Obasa offered the advice in his New Year’s speech delivered on Sunday in Lagos.

The speaker emphasised the importance of continuing to pray for Nigeria, particularly for the peaceful holding of the presidential and governorship elections.

He said: “We should not relent in seeking more support and prayers from our people. This is especially needed for peaceful and successful general elections.

“I want to also salute Nigerians for their resourcefulness, courage, prayers and support which have been vital to the successes so far recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration at all levels of governance.“

Obasa urged Nigerians to cast a large number of ballots for Sen. Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, on February 25.

The speaker stated that Tinubu was the chosen choice to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari with less than two months until the general elections.

Based on his actions as the governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, he said Tinubu represented the contemporary hope that Nigerians had for a better nation.

Obasa praised the people of Lagos for maintaining continuity in the state’s governance, noting that their continued support for APC candidates has led to Lagos currently having the fifth-largest economy in Africa.

“The consistency by the electorate in Lagos has produced the right leadership and results with our dear state enjoying some firsts in different sectors of the economy and human existence.

“Lagos has become a reference point for other states and some African countries because of the structures that have been put in place since 1999.
“We now have a state that has become very attractive to investors and those seeking for better life because of our people-oriented laws, motions and resolutions, as well as the synergy among the arms of government.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this is what Asiwaju Bola Tinubu wants to replicate at the centre, a Nigeria where equity will become the norm,” he said.

While congratulating Nigerians on seeing the year 2023, Obasa advised people to approach it with fresh optimism that Tinubu will succeed Buhari as president and that the nation would be better than in years past.

Additionally, he asked the populace to support the party by voting for Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu again, citing in particular his excellent contributions to the governance, expansion, and development of the state.

In the elections for the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly, the speaker gave the populace the assurance that the party would win every seat.
