Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State’s wife, celebrated the birth of triplets on Sunday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), in Ikeja.
Three infants were delivered via caesarean section by Mrs. Olufoye: a girl weighing 2.2 kilogrammes was born at 12:07 a.m.; a boy weighing 2 kilogrammes was delivered at 12:08 a.m.; and a girl weighing 2.1 kilogrammes was born at 12:09 a.m.
The first child of the year was a boy who weighed 3.1 kilos and was born by Mrs. Ayinde at 12:01 a.m. at the Eti-Osa Maternal Child Center (MCC).
At Ebute-Metta General Hospital, baby Iromain, a girl who weighed 2.9 kilos and was born at 12:02 a.m., was the first birth of the year.
Sanwo-Olu welcomed the first newborns to these institutions and praised them as wonderful gifts that provide happiness to the community.
In order to lower mother, child, and newborn mortality, Sanwo-Olu remarked that the state had reinforced its maternal and child health policies and programmes through the health ministry.
In order to lower the high morbidity and mortality rates among women and children under the age of five in the state, she said, renovating and building new Maternal and Child Care (MCC) centres will provide accessible and reasonably priced mother and child services.
Sanwo-Olu commended the medical staff and hospital administration for fostering a change in attitudes and creating a relaxing environment for efficient service delivery.
She also expressed her gratitude to all the donors, corporations, non-governmental organisations, and civil society organisations that collaborated to support the state’s vision and initiatives in the field of health.
