The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, received the “Tourism Amazon” of the year 2022 award from the Association of Tourism and Travel Writers of Nigeria (ATTWON) on Wednesday.
She and the other recipients of the award received it in Lagos at the ATTWON quarterly tourism parliament and awards ceremony.
For his immeasurable contribution to the promotion of Nigerian culture, Chief Olusegun Runsewe, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), was also given the culture tourism icon award.
For better capacity development in Nigeria, Alhaji Nura Kangiwa, Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), won the tourism and hospitality icon award.
When presenting the awards, Mr. Ayo Omotosho, the ATTWON Chairman, stated that it was only a means to recognise the recipients’ contributions to the expansion of the travel, tourist, and hospitality sectors in Nigeria.
Omotosho pointed out that this would encourage the recipients to put in even more effort to ensure ongoing improvement in their respective fields.
Oba Oladele Odugbemi, Olu of Lisa Kingdom, received recognition as the cultural tourism royal icon, and CitiHeight Luxury Hotel received recognition for its superior service delivery and role as a destination role model.
The award for the visionary change maker went to Chief Abiodun Odusanwo, Chairman of the Institute of Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN), and the award for the youth tourism pathfinder went to Mr. Omololu Olumuyiwa, Publisher of Travelscope Magazine.
The Think Tinubu Movement (TTM) was recognised as the most potent political support group, and Epe Resort and Spa was named the top destination resort.
Akinbile-Yusuf expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful gesture made toward her in her absence, which was delivered on her behalf by Mrs. Adamma Oni, Director, Tourism Promotions, Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
The chairman of CitiHeight Luxury Hotel, Mr. Olufemi Talabi, expressed his appreciation for the award’s organiser.
“I will cherish this for a long time because it is an award that is relevant to the industry that I play in, I appreciate and God bless,” he said.
