The newly-installed protem National Exco of the Law Society of Nigeria (LSN) congratulated the Body of Benchers (BoB) and all newly admitted attorneys to the Nigerian Bar on Wednesday.
At the BoB conference hall in Abuja on December 6 (yesterday), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the chairman of the BoB, called 4,711 recent law graduates to the Nigerian Bar.
The BoB advised all “new wigs” to make sure they always maintain the ethical standards of the legal profession.
The group also advocated adherence to the legislation in a statement that was made accessible to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday by LSN Publicity Secretary Mr. Douglas Ogbankwa and signed by the organization’s president, Mr. Kunle Ogunba SAN, and a trustee, Mr. Richard Ogbeche.
The statement partly reads:
“As one of the national associations of legal practitioners in Nigeria, the Protem National Executives of the Law Society of Nigeria (LSN) is excited to welcome all the new wigs, totaling 4,711, called to Bar on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022.
“In affirmation of your tenacity, we say keep your heads high, and be optimistic because optimism is the very foundation of courage and true progress.
“Be hard working, for we cannot overestimate the virtue of hard work and dreaming dreams; only those who have dared to achieve so, greatly ever achieved greatness.
“While dreaming dreams follow through with the works, be intentional; the sky can only be a launching pad for your untold greatness,” he said.
The organisation went on to say that the legal profession is in fact honourable and supports constitutional freedom for all Nigerians while acknowledging that as humans, we are all aware of our many flaws and faults.
“We are a miniature representation of the larger society. We are the very vanguard of rule of law and due process, whose mandate at all times, must be the attainment of substantial justice.
“While congratulating the Body of Benchers for admitting yet another set of lawyers into our most noble profession, we call on all and sundry to join hands together to make the Legal Profession the ‘numero uno’ among all professions in Nigeria.
“As an Association, we believe in the rule of law; we call on all other stakeholders to stick to the codes of the profession to serve as good examples to the new wigs,” he said.
