The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the APC Women’s Rally slated for Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Old Onikan Stadium), Onikan, Lagos Island, to assist the motoring public in managing their routes around the axis during the event.
According to a statement signed by Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, Commissioner for Transportation, traffic will be restricted between Police Zonal Headquarters, Zone II and Onikan Roundabout beginning at 10 a.m., advising motorists using the Island Club road by Police Headquarters Zone II, Onikan to connect to their desired destinations via alternative routes.
Motorists from Victoria Island can use Ozumba Mbadiwe road through Five Cowries Bridge (Falomo Bridge) to access Alfred Rewane road to Osborne road and connect their destinations, or they can go through Bonny Camp to access CMS/Marina Bridge after Independence Bridge (Mekunwen Bridge) and loop it down towards Cathedral Church to connect Lagos Island through Odunlami Street and continue their journeys.
Oladeinde also mentioned that they can access their various destinations by using Force Road next to Muson Centre, J.K Randle Avenue (Race Course), Water Board, and Old Broad Street.
The Commissioner also stated that motorists can use King George V Road to connect Awolowo Road or J.K. Randle Avenue via Onikan Roundabout, Turton Street inwards Lewis Street to Sandgrouse, or Moloney Street to Obalende.
Similarly, Oladeinde explained that motorists travelling from Awolowo Road in Ikoyi to Onikan can use Falomo Roundabout to Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road to access Simpson/Sandgrouse Road or Simpson Interchange to Obalende to Moloney Street to continue their journey.
He also stated that motorists travelling from JK Randle Avenue (Race Course) to Water Board can use Old Defence Road or Ganiyu Smith Road to connect Igbosere, Sandgrouse to Simpson Street and access the Third Mainland Bridge via Simpson Interchange.
The Commissioner, on the other hand, enjoined rally attendees to use the Third Mainland Bridge to descend at the Onikan exit to link the designated car parks, adding that Alfred Rewane road through Falomo into Awolowo road and Outer Marina through Force road will also be open for attendees to access designated car parks.
He emphasised the designated Free Parking Lots for cars, such as Zone II Car Park, Club Road, MUSON Kitchen Car Park, Odeya Multi-Layer Car Park, King George V Road, TBS, Cricket Pitch Car Park, Independent Building Car Park, Banquet Hall Car Park, Marquee Car Park, Old Defense Headquarters Car Park, and others as directed by officials.
Oladeinde promised that Security and Traffic Management personnel would be stationed at all strategic junctions and intersections to ensure the safety and security of all road users as well as free traffic flow within the campaign venue’s perimeter.
