2 men charged for allegedly stealing electric cables worth N1.25m

In Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, the Lagos State Police charged two individuals for allegedly planning to steal transformer cables worth N1.25 million with others who are now at large.

Fawaz Adebayo, 18, and Aruna Nura, 25, are charged with four counts of conspiracy, a felony, including intentional damage, wilful damage, and stealing. Their addresses are unknown.

The accused, however, entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.

The defendants committed the crimes between October and November 25 on Kofoworola Street, Ipakodo in the Ebute neighbourhood of Ikorodu, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Adegeshin Famuyiwa.

According to Famuyiwa, the defendants stole and illegally damaged transformer wires that belonged to the Araromi village in Ipakodo.

She said that with knowing that the transformer cables were stolen, one of the defendants, Nura, deceitfully obtained them from Adebayo.

The prosecution claims that the offences violate Sections 411, 250, 287, and 328 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws from 2015.

The accused were granted bail in the amount of N200,000 each with two sureties in the same amount and with verifiable addresses by the magistrate, Mr. A.O. Ogbe.

The magistrate postponed the case until January 12, 2023, for mention.
