Two alleged “one chance” armed robbers were arrested by LASTMA officers in Ikate, Lekki-Ajah, Lagos.
This was revealed in Lagos on Sunday by LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, via the authority’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo.
Oreagba revealed that the suspects were apprehended by the Agency’s patrol team when they were on duty observing and managing traffic at the Lekki-Ajah axis of the State.
“Our officials heard passengers with loud voice shouting, thieves! thieves!! while on a patrol team, in an unpainted commercial bus.
“While trying to stop the driver, he drove dangerously and our men pursued them with LASTMA patrol vehicle down to Ikate where they were blocked by another pathfinder car belonging to a good Samaritan.
“Two suspects were arrested while the remaining two suspects escaped with the P.O.S they used to withdraw passengers money inside the T4 commercial bus.
“The two arrested suspects with the recovered unpainted T4 commercial bus were later handed over to R.R.S personnel who were on pin-down at Chisco, along Lekki- Ajah.
“They were all later moved down to Ilasan Police Station for further investigations,” Oreagba said.
The General Manager urged Lagos residents to always ensure that they board buses at designated garages and added that they should exercise caution, especially when boarding public transportation.
The unpainted commercial bus from Alfa-Beach headed to Ikate, according to Mr. Christophe Omukoro, one of the rescued passengers.
He admitted that there were four of them working the P.O.S. machine, which was used to take money from individual accounts and collect ATM cards from passengers.
Passengers began chanting “thieves,” according to Omukoro. After taking their phones and other belongings from them, they heard shouts of “thieves!”
