A farewell session for the late Mr. Abdul-Sobur Olawale, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was conducted on Thursday. Mr. Olawale passed away on Tuesday in Jos while attending an APC presidential rally.
The Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Sanai Agunbiade, raised the legislator’s passing in a motion at the plenary on Thursday and referred to Olawale as an angel who kept his name a secret.
The death of the politician, who until his passing represented Mushin Constituency II and served as chairman of the house committee on local government and community relations, had been confirmed by the parliament on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old Omititi, as he was affectionately referred to by his supporters, friends, and colleagues, was born on March 12, 1964.
As of Friday, the lawmaker appeared to be in good health. He actively participated as a goalkeeper for one of the sides in the novelty game that members played to honour Obasa’s 50th birthday.
The House congratulated the state’s governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for helping two of the deceased lawmaker’s children find jobs and scholarships for the ones who were still in school after observing a minute of silence in his honour.
Agunbiade praised the governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, for supporting them while the body was being transported to Lagos.
He also expressed gratitude to Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Sen. Bola Tinubu, the Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, his wife Falilat Obasa, and everyone else who supported the deceased person’s family.
Sanni said: “At a time just before our trip to Jos, I had headache and he showed a lot of care. He even told someone that he would be in Lagos before dawn.
“We got to Jos together, had our activity and he did not show any sign of illness.”
Also, Mr. Victor Akande (APC-Ojo I) recalled how Olawale joined him and others at the airport before the trip.
“I was the one that called Omititi that it was time for us to go to the airport. I was with Hon. Jude Idimogu.
“He immediately asked me if I had taken my drugs and even showed me where to get water. He even helped one of us to get his boarding pass,” Akande said.
Corroborating, Mr Kehinde Joseph (APC-Alimosho II) said: “We played football on Friday, we were at the retreat on Saturday to Monday and he died on Tuesday.
“He was never an angry person. There was nothing he could not give for love. If you look at his death, you would want to ask what the essence of our struggling in life is.”
While reminiscing their friendship, Mr. Nureni Akinsanya (APC-Mushin I) said: “I stand here in grief because, while I represent Mushin 1, Omititi represented Mushin II, and we were close. He was incredibly responsible.”
The House also confirmed Mr. Saheed Adio, a former lawmaker, to be a commissioner in the the Lagos State House of Assembly Commission.
