The conviction of Faisal for conspiracy and money laundering by the Court of Appeal on Thursday was affirmed. Faisal is the son of the imprisoned former Chairman of the disbanded Pension Reform Taskforce Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina.
A three-member panel of the appellate court also lowered his sentence from 14 to seven years in prison on the basis that he was a first-time offender.
The Federal High Court in Abuja’s Justice Okon Abang was found to have correctly convicted Faisal, according to the court’s ruling, which was written by Justice Ugochukwu Anthony Ogakwu.
It believed that because the convict was a first-time offender, the trial court should not have imposed the highest penalty allowed by the law.
