The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) met for the first time on Thursday in Lagos State to talk about security measures for the general elections in 2023.
This information was provided in a statement by Mrs. Adenike Tadese, the department head for voter education and publicity, on behalf of Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos state.
The meeting took place in the state office of the commission in Sabo-Yaba.
“The committee agreed to design security strategies to deploy before, during and after the 2023 general elections, to ensure the security of the electorate and the entire electoral process,” Agbaje said.
He gave the state’s citizens assurances that the upcoming general elections will be held in a peaceful and harmonious environment.
Agbaje claimed that INEC was working to ensure that votes were counted and to strengthen the country’s democracy.
The administrative secretary of the commission and the chiefs of other security agencies in the state, according to the INEC boss, were present at the meeting.
Agbaje is the chairman of ICCES, while Mr. Abiodun Alabi, the commissioner of police for the Lagos state command, is the co-chairman.
