DIG Johnson Kokumo, who is in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Development (FCID), told drivers and other people using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday that they were safe.
Following frequent incidents of kidnapping and robbery of unwary travellers in recent years, Kokumo provided assurance during his inspection visit to the route.
On the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the DIG travelled to the state and territorial borders of Ogun and Oyo with the assistance of Oyo State Commissioner of Police Adebowale Williams and his staff.
The boundaries separating the states of Ogun and Oyo were examined at Sapade, Alapako, Onigari, and Ogunmakin.
After his tour, Kokumo briefed the media, stating that Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, was “extremely concerned about the incidents of kidnapping and other crimes being committed on the expressway.
He claims that in order to address the problem permanently, he has ordered me to travel to the relevant places.
The DIG stated that he had the chance to observe potential contributing factors to the tragedy during his visit and that the police will take care of the matters that concern them.
“Areas we do not have enough feasibility policing and vehicles to respond to distress calls and others that concern the police will be properly addressed.
“We will call the attention of other government agencies to it; for instance, it is not the responsibility of the police to clear bushes at the edge of the road.
“We want to have an expressway where reasonable metres are visible.
“So, we are going to call the attention of those concerned and collaborate so as to ensure that the expressway will be perfectly secured,” Kokumo said.
