Epe LG boss cautions against indiscriminate dumping of refuse

On Friday, Ms. Surah Animashaun, Chairman of Epe Local Government in Lagos State, issued a warning to locals not to deposit trash in undesignated areas, particularly on the sides of the road.

Animashaun issued the warning in an interview with the newsmen on Friday in Epe.

She claims that seeing enormous amounts of trash along the sides of the road and in other unauthorised locations is no longer unusual in Epe.

“This trend is on the rise and is increasingly becoming a problem because it hinders the objective of keeping the environment clean and can have adverse effects on the environment.

“It is based on this development that the council embarked on refuse collection across the local government area to achieve clean and safe environment,” she said.

Residents were exhorted by Animashaun to use the rubbish collectors that the government had authorised to remove the trash from the neighbourhood.

She promised that the council will collaborate with the state government to educate locals on the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

She claims that traders in particular need to be made aware of the risks associated with dumping trash in unapproved locations, such as roadside ditches.

“The effort is necessary due to the way and manner refuse is dumped on major roads, road sides and other unauthorised places.

“Anyone found dumping refuse indiscriminately will be made to face the law,” she said.

She urged locals to help the council create a sustainable and living environment so that everyone could be proud of it.

Residents were reassured by Animashaun that the council was dedicated to enhancing local quality of life and fostering democracy.
