In their second game in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League, Bayelsa Queens FC defeated TP Mazembe of the DR Congo to earn the necessary three points.
The Nigerian champions got off to a strong start in the encounter on Thursday at the Grand de Stade Marrakech, Morocco, scoring in the fourth minute of play.
From the penalty spot, Ogoma Joseph gave Bayelsa Queens FC the early advantage before Chinyere Igbomalu added a second goal 21 minutes later.
The Bayelsa defence did a good job of keeping the opposition at bay as the game ended in their favour, giving them their first win in the tournament’s history.
The Nigerian team will play Wadi Degla FC of Egypt in their final group match on Sunday in an effort to advance to the tournament semi-finals after losing 1-2 to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the opening group match.
