Air transport services union calls off strike

Tuesday marked the end of the strike by the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) against Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) over the unjust dismissal of 34 union members.

This was said in a statement made by the union’s deputy general secretary, Mr. Frances Akinjole, on Wednesday in Lagos.

When ATSSSAN shut down MMA2 terminal early on Tuesday, Nov. 1, there was significant traffic on the connection road going to the international terminal.

A number of passengers were forced to miss their flights as a result of the union’s actions, which had an impact on the face-off.

At a meeting in Lagos, the Ministry of Labor & Employment, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airport Authority (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and other airport security authorities intervened, according to Akinjole, and the union called off the strike.

“The strike that was embarked upon on Nov. 1 against the Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited has been called off pursuant to the acceptance by the company to recall the laid off members of our union and an undertaking to pay their salaries.

“The agreement was reached at a meeting empanelled by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, NCAA, FAAN, NAMA and airport security agencies,” he said in the statement.
