Tall walls of black smoke came from the direction of the ultra-modern Tejuosho market indicating that there was a large fire close by.
Initially, when at about 4.30 pm LM called the Lagos State Fire Service, they confirmed a fire outbreak in the area, but they couldn’t say exactly where the fire was, only that it was thought to be close to the ultramodern market complex.
It turned out to be the Tailors’ Market at Yaba, behind the Tejuosho ultra-modern shopping complex.
A tweet by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said:
“Fire Alert!
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is battling an inferno at Tailor Market behind the ultra-modern Tejuosho Market, Yaba, Lagos.
The Fire which involved the clothing and tailoring materials section of the market is being subdued by the Lagos Firefighters.
…Update to follow as situation unfolds.

Personnel from both the Federal and Lagos State fire departments were at the scene to put out the fire.
The Tejuosho fire came hours after another fire broke out at Adeola Odeku when an industrial generator burst into flames engulfing a passing Rapid Response Squad vehicle.
The remains of a person suspected to be a man were found at the scene of the fire.
There are still no details as to the extent of lives or property destroyed by the Tejuosho fire.
