The first office of an IT company, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), has reportedly been established in Lagos, Nigeria.
The company’s Regional Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, Ms. Amrote Abdella, said in a statement on Tuesday that the office was opening in order to further its commitment to Africa.
According to Abdella, the opening of the new Lagos location was part of AWS’s effort to assist the country’s expanding customer and partner base.
AWS, an Amazon subsidiary, provides clients all over the world with website hosting, backup, analytics, digital marketing, application integration, blockchain, networking, and other related services.
“With a local presence, AWS will support new and existing customers looking to use AWS products and services to innovate, lower their information technology (IT) costs, and grow their organizations in the cloud.
“We are excited to open our first AWS office in Nigeria, Lagos offers a highly skilled and creative talent pool, and the area is home to many fast-growing startups and notable Nigerian enterprises leading the way in digital innovation.
“We look forward to fostering the country’s pioneering spirit and helping our customers accelerate their digital transformation as they deliver innovative new products and services to the Nigerian community,’’ Abdella said.
AWS Activate, according to Abdella, offers entrepreneurs the tools they need to get started on AWS, including up to $100,000 in credits, training, support, and connections to incubators, accelerators, and venture capital firms.
She claims that AWS Academy supports educators and university students in gaining information and skills linked to AWS Cloud computing, accelerating learning in this area.
The University of Benin, University of Jos, and Igbinedion University are among the Nigerian AWS Academy member universities, according to the regional manager.
