Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), the PDP candidate for governor of Lagos State, declared that if elected in 2023, he will put an end to the abuses of transportation unions and car park touts.
Adediran said he is ready to offer inhabitants of the state a new lease on life while speaking on Sunday night at the formal presentation of Pastor Umo Eno, the PDP candidate for governor of Akwa Ibom State, to citizens of the state living in Lagos state.
The Nigerian Airforce, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, served as the venue for the event.
In response to alleged extortion and harassment by the car park management and thugs known as Agbero, the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria ((JDWAN)) said on Sunday that it will begin its scheduled seven-day strike on Monday.
Adediran, who played host at the event, said: “We will provide new leadership in Lagos State.
“We will check the excesses of motor touts as well as Iyaloja and Babaloja in the state.
“Anyone that closes any market in the state would be sent to prison. I am not going to have any godfather.
“We will ensure that any money collected as revenue in Lagos State is spent for the people of the state as against what is currently obtainable in the state.”
He believed that the time had arrived to free the state’s citizens.
Adediran promised that his administration would create conditions for indigenes and non-indigenes in the state to live side by side in peace.
He said that his administration will make every effort to maintain the state’s citizens’ ability to live in peace and harmony.
He declared that his administration would value the contributions non-indigenes made to the state’s economy while it was under his control.
Adediran expressed confidence that Eno will follow in the footsteps of the outgoing Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom when speaking about his colleague from Akwa Ibom.
He claims that Governor Emmanuel sees things that others do not, and that he considers Emmanuel to be his father.
The PDP candidate informed voters that the election will be a referendum on the accomplishments of the outgoing Governor while promising to build on the success of Emmanuel.
“The government of Obong Udom Emmanuel has completed so many projects in Akwa Ibom State such as good roads, street lights, walkways, fountains, dualised roads and others, and he has made us proud.
“When the standard bearer of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, came to flag off his campaign in Akwa Ibom, he said that Nigeria wants to be Akwa Ibom.
“The Governor is building the fourth longest bridge in Nigeria. He has opened Akwa Ibom by air, land and sea.
“With these, it is time to go back home, Udom is working. We will send you logistics to come home to vote, while those here should vote for the PDP,” he said.
Eno said that Akwa Ibom was fast developing, adding that “the election is not a popularity contest, but that it is about a need and impactful assessment.”
The cleric-turned-politician said that Emmanuel brought peace to the state, hence the need to continue the trajectory of development.
“We have ‘Arise Agenda’. We want to ensure that we all have dividends of democracy and take it to the grassroots.
“We will have proper farm settlements with hostels and facilities. We will have people work on those farms. We will build on security; we will block waterways; provide adequate security and fund education.
“I will create 5,000 non-governmental jobs. I will start small and grow fast. There are many other things we would do for employment,” he said.
Elder Samuel Bassey, who spoke on behalf of Governor Emmanuel, added that Eno could not be stopped since Lagos state had resolved to back him.
According to Bassey, the contender would carry on the initiatives started by departing Governor Udom Emmanuel.
