LASTMA warns drivers creating fueling station backlog

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) advised drivers on Wednesday that the current gasoline shortage was no justification for stifling and impeding traffic movement throughout the state.

This was stated by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, on behalf of the general manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba.

According to the statement, Oreagba made his comments as the State dispatched more law enforcement officers to increase security at petrol stations.

He said that reports of long lines outside gas stations brought on by reckless parking by drivers prompted the deployment.

Oreagba expressed disgust at such drivers’ unruly behaviour, saying that they obstructed roadways while forming lines and waiting to buy petrol.

He called on those in charge of selling gasoline to make sure that sales were conducted in a way that did not interfere with other drivers’ freedom of movement.

“The scarcity of fuel being experienced is not an excuse to block and impede traffic flows across Lagos.

“We want our roads to be free. We do not want fuel queues to constitute a burden for other road users in Lagos,” Oreagba said.

The General Manager reaffirmed the need for effective traffic management in achieving a smooth multi-modal transportation system in Lagos.

To guarantee that the ‘T.h.e.m.e.s’ agenda of the current government produced beneficial results in terms of socio-economic growth, as well as the protection of lives and property, he sought the utmost level of collaboration from the watching public.
