Police in Lagos investigate decomposed body found in room

A drowning and suicide also reported

Police in Lagos State have started looking into the death of a 45-year-old man after finding his decomposing body in his residence in the state’s Idimu neighbourhood.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos police command, revealed the information to the press on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the deceased’s landlord called the police when he hadn’t seen the tenant in three days and welcomed them to the property.

He claimed that on Thursday at about noon, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Idimu received the information.

“The landlord reported to the police that he went to his apartment and knocked and discovered the door locked from inside.

“Based on the report, a team of detectives from Idimu was mobilised to the scene.

” His door was forced open where his decomposing body was found.

“The police photographed his corpse and evacuated him to the IDH mortuary, Yaba for autopsy, ” he said.

A young man who has not yet been recognised drowned in a pool at CAPPA Oshodi, according to Hundeyin, who also reported another death there.

He said that on October 10 at around 7.30 a.m., representatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported the incident at the Olosan police division in Mushin.

According to the report, the deceased, who was known only as Andrew, allegedly drowned in a swimming pool on October 9 at approximately 11.40 p.m., according to Hundeyin.

“The victim was rushed to the LASEMA office where he was confirmed dead.

“Based on the report, a team of policemen visited and photographed the scene.

“The team also visited the LASEMA office where photographs of the deceased was taken, corpse was deposited at IDH Yaba for autopsy,” he said.

According to Hundeyin, the case is being investigated.

The official added that on Friday at around 6.05 p.m., a 37-year-old man’s apparent suicide was reported to the Akinpelu police division.

He described how an emergency call had been made reporting that the deceased had purportedly hanged himself in his Oshodi room.

Police detectives were dispatched to the scene, according to Hundeyin, based on the report.

“On arrival, the team met the lifeless body dangling on a rope, tied to the ceiling fan, anchored in the room.

“The detectives photographed the scene and evacuated the corpse to IDH Morgue, Yaba, for autopsy, while the investigation continues,” he said.
