The National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS) is pleased that the state government has committed to providing bursaries to Lagos students.
Mr. Shasanya Akinola, who is the National President of NULASS, put out a statement on Friday in Lagos in which he commended the move.
According to Akinola, the government had provided significant bursary payments for the 2020–2021 academic year through its scholarship board.
The union leader said that the rumour that some students were planning a big protest over not getting bursaries for the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 school years was not true.
Akinola stated that preparations were being made to ensure that any unpaid bills would be paid.
He said: “Lagos State Government has always reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to the welfare of indigenous students of the state, as efforts are ongoing to ensure that disbursement of outstanding payments is made.
“This is evidenced in the last communication between the Lagos State Scholarship Board executives led by Mr Rahman Lekki and our national union with other stakeholders in attendance, on Sept. 7.”
“We are resolute in our commitment to ensuring that the welfare of indigenous students is met,” he said.
He asked the students to be calm.
“Through dialogue, commitment, and strategic collaboration, we can continue to uphold the excellence of our great state,” he added.
