To correct the mistaken inclusion of Ayuba Wabba and Festus Osifo, Labour Party (LP) has stated it will produce a fresh list of its Campaign Council members.
This was announced at the conclusion of LP’s Expanded National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja by the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure.
Abure claims that the party’s enlarged NWC meeting recently reviewed the party’s recent political activity and passed some resolutions as a result.
He stated that the NLC and TUC Presidents had been removed from the campaign council due to their mistaken inclusion.
“It is in the strength of the above that the Presidential Campaign Council has been duly announced with representation across all states, tribes and faith.
“Labour Party hereby announces the endorsement of the Campaign Council; however, we acknowledge some omissions and misplacement of some names in the Council.
“This will be corrected and a supplementary list released before the inauguration of the Council.
“Also corrected is the erroneous inclusion of Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress members in the Campaign list.”
After the NWC was extended, it was confirmed that National Chairman Julius Abure was a competent administrator whose influence was felt by all party members.
Therefore, the NWC strongly recommended that he keep up the excellent work he’s been doing to lead the party to victory in 2023.
He claims that the Labour Party is prepared to launch an election campaign in 2023.
“As of the moment, we are consolidating the momentum that will help us establish a new Nigeria come May 29, 2023.
“We also further make it clear that Labour Party enjoys a robust relationship with the new Campaign Council.”
Abure reaffirmed the party’s dedication to empowering women, young people, and marginalised communities in all of its endeavours. Furthermore, he stated that the current NWC session strongly condemned the constant attacks on Labour Party members and supporters during peaceful solidarity marches.
He said that members of the LP had been attacked by goons from other political parties in Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Katsina, as well as by certain unsavoury elements of the Ebubeagu vigilante in Imo State and Ebonyi.
Abure expressed shock that those responsible for the heinous crime had not yet been apprehended and brought to justice.
He stated that the NWC in the session had formally requested the Federal Government and law enforcement to actively seek out the criminals and bring them to justice.
He expressed appreciation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its efforts to date in establishing the necessary infrastructure for holding fair elections across the country.
He did, however, call on INEC to speed up the manufacture and distribution of permanent voter cards so that Nigerians may cast ballots for their preferred candidates.
Citizens were encouraged to get their PVCs and cast ballots in the next election by the party.
Abure praised the party’s supporters and urged them to maintain their enthusiasm for the Labour Party and Peter Obi’s candidacy.
