Akintayo Olawale, a truck driver, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing a Howo truck valued at N40 million.
Olawale, 35, is accused of conspiring and stealing on two counts; his address was not given.
He entered a not-guilty plea.
The defendant and other people who are still at large committed the crimes on September 28 at 4 a.m., according to the prosecutor, Insp. Funmi Akinleye.
According to Akinleye, Olawale stole the truck with the license plate SMK 591 XY.
The vehicle belonged to African Mechanical Super Life Ltd., according to the prosecutor.
He claims that the crime is punishable in accordance with Section 287(9) of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.
The defendant was granted bail in the amount of one million Naira by the magistrate, Mrs O. O. Fajana, with two sureties in an equivalent amount.
One of the sureties, she stipulated, had to be a defendant’s blood relative.
The case was postponed until a hearing on November 9 by Fajana.
