Nigerian lecturer heads Commission for African Women in Mathematics

The University of Ilorin’s Department of Mathematics’s Prof. Olubunmi Fadipe-Joseph was chosen on Monday to lead the Commission for African Women in Mathematics (CAWM).

Speaking on the development at Ilorin, Prof. Kayode Oyewumi, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences at the University of Ilorin, praised Fadipe-appointment Joseph’s as meritorious and wished her further success.

The new chair of the mathematics commission is an expert in complex analysis-geometric function theory and a professor at Unilorin’s Faculty of Physical Science.

Its objectives include empowering girls and women to pursue education, employment in the mathematical sciences, equitable opportunities and treatment within the African mathematical community, and the establishment of a gathering place for African women in mathematics.

A non-profit, non-governmental global network, the Commission of African Women in Mathematics was established in 1986 to support the African Mathematical Union (AMU).
