Laolu Martins, co-founder and executive director of Bukka Hut, who is also an experienced investment banker has sadly died after an accident.
Reports say he hit his head when he slipped at Lennox Mall, Lekki, Lagos.
After being rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention, Martins, unfortunately, didn’t make it.
He died on September 27, Tuesday night.
He is survived and would be deeply missed by his wife and two kids, his extended family, business partner and Co-founder of Bukka Hut, Rasheed Jayeola, and staff.
The family in a statement has confirmed his death and pleaded with the general public for privacy to enable them to grieve his loss.
The statement read: “We hereby solicit the support and understanding of everyone as the family grieves the loss of our beloved Laolu in our privacy.
“Our kind request is that you support the family – wife, children, aged mother and father and his siblings with your prayers at this difficult time.
“Further announcements will be made by the family.”
Laolu, in his 40s with 21 years’ worth of experience, kick-started his career in 1999 with Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
He was a Chartered stockbroker and a Chartered accountant with 12 years of experience in investment banking, cooperate banking, stockbroking, asset management and pension fund management.
He joined Investment Banking & Trust Company Plc, now Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc where he served in the Financial Control and Trade Finance/Foreign Operations units of the Bank before being seconded to Stanbic IBTC Asset Management Ltd where at various times he was Financial Controller, Head Asset Management and lastly Head Stockbroking.
He later resigned in 2005 to join Shell Nig. CPFA Ltd, the Fund Manager of the Shell Companies in Nigeria Pensions Scheme where he was Head, Investments up till 2008 when he resigned to join Nigeria International Security Limited, NISL, an independent financial services firm specializing in investments within the Nigerian space where he was the CEO up until his death.
Martins, his partner Rasheed and their team had recently just opened their 15th Bukka Hut outlet in Ikorodu, Lagos.
