NSCDC Operatives Discovers Illegal Mining Site in Lagos

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has said it discovered an illegal mining site during its midweek operations.

Eweka Okoro, the State Agency Commandant, in a brief statement, said its agents were carrying out a search when they uncovered the location in the Ijede axis of Ikorodu.

Okoro, while condemning the criminal act, said the miners were illegally mining soil from large hectares of land where telecommunication masts and power lines were planted.

The NSCDC commandant stressed that: “The Command will not rest on its oars to ensure that illegal mining sites are shut and protect pipelines, telecommunications infrastructure and other national assets.”

Equipment discovered at the site includes three caterpillars, assumed to have been used by the miners for their activities.

Okoro cautioned that engaging in unlawful activities that could jeopardize public health and critical public assets, he called those engaging in it to desist.

He stated that Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC CG, had instructed State Commandants to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) belonging to Federal, State, and Local Governments.
