As this August marks the first year of its investiture, on Saturday, 21st August 2021 at 12 noon, the Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo (NNII) group plans to spread its tentacles with an anniversary event which will be streamed across social media platforms. The theme for the programme is “Enhancing Women’s Participation and Partnership in Governance and Development”.
Speakers at the event will include the Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District and Minority Leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe would be speaking. A few other Panelists are billed to discuss the various issues that are dear to the women as team players in national development.
The former Minister of power, Professor Bart Nnaji who serves as the chairman Board of Advisers to the group and the BOT Chairperson, a former United Nations Assistant Secretary General, H.E, Regina Amadi-Njoku would as well have speaking sessions at the event.
A rich line up of panelists from across the nation are equally billed handle presentations at the maiden edition of the anniversary celebration. Notable personalities like Nollywood veteran actress, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, Poet and writer, Fr. Angelbert Chikere, IT Specialist, Obianuju Kanu Ogoko, Financial Service professional Onyeka Akpaida, Spoken Word Poet, Dike Chukwumerije, Public Health Specialist, Dr. Stella Iwuagwu and Dr. Sussie Ayam-Okoro make up this list.
For the Igbo nation, the narrative of patriarchal privilege is being toned down as more women have become actively involved in leadership and development across Igbo nation-states. A number of women-led organizations have sprung up to unite women across the eastern region of Nigeria and inspire them to be global imoact-makers.
One of those groups poised to galvanize feminine leadership power is the NNII. The organization is a socio-cultural group of women that was founded a year ago, during the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the view of reconciling the gender gap that has existed in the political space.
The Motto of the group, ‘Partnering for Development’, clearly presents the drive of the forum to provide support in leadership and development as the metaphorical reference to women as the neck of a family inscribes. The vision of the group as clearly stated in their publications is to galvanize women across regional and religious lines to intensify the push for complimentary leadership that can help to facilitate development especially after the global economic crisis in a pandemic that has triggered deeper problems in all sectors of national and global life.
According to the president general and founder of the organization, former Minister of women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Anenih, NKATA is a child of circumstance. An anniversary event has become necessary to the inclusion of other Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to a round table conversation, the meaning of the word “NKATA” implies.
It is the intent of the group to help women maximize their potentials both in families, communities and in the nation as it believes that it is a pathway to the aspects of development which the country requires.
This is the time for practical solutions, Since we are aware of the underlying problems, the time for practical solution is come and a valid channel is having the right conversations. The group has come to give women a chance at having the ‘Nkata’.
