Mike Appoh, popularly known as Micro Mike, was prominent on the alto saxophone playing vibrant riffs during Majek Fashek’s pulsating performances on stage. Mike is a multi-instrumentalist plying his trade in the UK as a jazz player.
Then, there was Monica Omorodion Swaida, who always went went with the stage name, Monicazation, who used to lend her voice to Fashek’s background vocals as they traversed the length and breath of the country. At most of the meets, she was the opening act. Monica is a singer, actress, and insurance mogul.
That was a long time ago in the 80s and early 90s.
Fashek, Micro Mike and Monicazation all left the shores of Nigeria to continue to ply their trade abroad.
Over time, Majek Fashek became ill and in the summer of 2020, it was announced that he had passed away in the United States.
Mourning Majek Fashek, Micro Mike and Monicazation recently came together to release a soulful reggae single: Majek Fashek, I remember you!
Micro Mike’s rich, baritone voice comes through clearly:
“I can see humanity living in harmony. The world full of peace. Majek Fashek, my brother, I remember you… I can see seven angels taking you to heaven…”
Mike’s engaging voice is complimented by the sonorous voice of Monica singing in reprise.
It’s a reggae tune that is as rich as a Fashek classic and the late singer would definitely be lifted up in soul by this number. All in all, it is a great sing-along.
