A Musician, Anthony Manuwa, popularly known as Sean Tero, has given a facelift to MKO Abiola Mini Stadium, Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa Isolo in Lagos State, to encourage more sporting activities.
Speaking at the inauguration of the rehabilitated stadium on Saturday, Manuwa said that the choice of the project was part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to his immediate community.
“The project is done because I am a product of this community, Jakande Estate.
“It is a turning point in our collective attempts to move the stadium to a better standard and ensure a conducive environment for sporting activities,” the `Choko’ crooner said.
According to him, the stadium will create an avenue for youths and the elderly to use the facility for various physical exercises and sporting events.
The musician said that the rehabilitation would also add more value and beauty to the stadium which had become a centre for sporting activities, especially since the outbreak of COVID-19.
Manuwa said that one of the works carried out on the stadium was to correct the affected part of the field where erosion posed a great challenge during rainfall.
“We have no doubt in our mind that the project will be sustainable.
“How I wish other multinational companies can come to our aid by helping more in advancing the standard of the stadium,” he added.
Mr Oluwaseun Adekoya, the Chairman of Jakande Estate Youth Organisation, thanked the musician for the kind gesture to the community.
Adekoya said that the development would go a long way in encouraging youths to participate and showcase their talents.
“I believe that Manuwa came in as partner seeing he can contribute his quota to what has been existing in the stadium.
“I am sure all the youth are happy seeing the beautification and rehabilitation of the field especially to prevent erosion during rainfall.
“By the time you enter the field, you can see people can now train better, enjoy the game of football and other sports. We are so happy to see this development from him,” he said.
Olakunle Suleiman, one of the athletes who frequently use the stadium, also thanked the musician.
He said that such development would encourage more youths to showcase their talents.
Sporting activities including football, boxing, athletics and basketball often take place at the mini stadium which can contain over 3000 spectators. (NAN)
