Latest COVID-19 stats indicate it’s not over yet

Latest statistics from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) indicate that there is no cause for celebration just yet, even as the federal and state governments have relaxed all movement restrictions.

On Sunday night, the NCDC announced that there were 126 new confirmed cases and 2 deaths recorded in Nigeria.

The 126 new cases are reported from 12 states – FCT (30), Lagos (24), Rivers (23), Ogun (13), Katsina (9), Plateau (9), Ondo (6), Kaduna (4), Kwara (4), Imo (2), Bauchi (1), Edo (1).

Till date, 58324 cases have been confirmed nationwide, while 49794 cases have been discharged and 1108 deaths recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.

Lagos State which has been the epicentre of the pandemic has so far recorded 19,239 confirmed cases, 15,246 of whom have been discharged with 205 deaths.

According to the latest stats, prevalence is highest in the 31-40 age group who account for over 15,000 cases nationwide – males accounting for almost 10,000 while there are almost 5,500 female cases.

The NCDC continues to advise safe public health protocols which include the use of face masks and social distancing.
