A mighty crowd formed at No. 16 Salvation Road, Opebi, Lagos, at the scene of a helicopter crash in which two persons were confirmed to have been killed while one person was rescued.
Rescue efforts by a combined team of men from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Lagos State Safety Commission (LASSC), the Lagos State Fire service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), were impeded for a while as the crowd surged to see the carnage of the crash with most onlookers using their mobile phones to capture the scene.
The Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirming the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the crash, which involved a helicopter which is said to belong to Quorum Aviation, occurred at No. 16, Salvation Road in Opebi, north of Lagos.
Incidentally, the address is the location of a children’s clothing shop – God’s Grace Store.
“One person was rescued alive and two persons died, including the pilot” Farinloye said.
The response effort took up to two hours after which the crowd began to thin out after some of the response personnel began to leave.
To keep the crowd at bay, the response squad formed a cordon to prevent unauthorized access for up to one hour
