The Lagos State Government on Tuesday warned residents on the activities of extortionists and fraudsters at construction sites, parading themselves as state officials, warning residents to be on the look out.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL), Dr Abiodun Tajudeen, said in a statement in Lagos that the agency had begun surveillance and would prosecute the offenders.
Tajudeen said that LSMTL would sanitise the built environment and ensure that materials used for construction had integrity to stand the test of time.
He declared zero tolerance to all forms of impersonations of staff of the agency.
“Upon receiving numerous complaints that touts extort developers/contractors and innocent members of the public in disguise to conduct tests, we put up surveillance machineries to apprehend some of those behind the scene.
“The dragnet caught three of the impostors,” he said.
The general manager disclosed the names of three impersonators allegedly caught at Igando in the Alimosho Local Government Area of the state, who were apprehended and handed over to the police.
He also revealed the registration number of the Sport Utility Vehicle allegedly used by the fraudsters, comprising two men and a woman.
“This announcement is to sound a note of warning to touts and impostors and to announce that there is a new sheriff in town,” Tajudeen said. (NAN)
