While daily testing has been notched up even higher nationwide, there seems to be cause for smiles as the rate of new COVID19 cases in Lagos is steadily dropping.
Though 1,935 tests were recorded nationwide on Friday, yet another high, Lagos reported 66 new COVID19 cases on Saturday, down from 121 new cases on Friday.
The total number of tests done across the country now stands at 74,999.
But it is not yet Uhuru for Lagos as Saturday’s figure may not exactly represent a dropping trend as the just over 20,000 tests done in Lagos, pales in comparison with its teeming population of over 14 million (according to UN World Urbanization index).
The Lagos State Ministry of Health projects that Lagos may have over 120,000 confirmed cases by July.
In the latest figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos now has 5,729 confirmed COVID19 cases, 4,718 of which are active, while there have been 67 deaths.
Nationwide, the agency reports 389 new COVID19 cases for Saturday.
The breakdown is as follows:
Lagos(66), FCT (50), Delta(32), Oyo(31), Borno (26), Rivers(24), Edo (23), Ebonyi(23), Anambra(17), Gombe(17), Nasarawa(14), Imo(12), Kano (12), Sokoto(12), Jigawa (8), Ogun(7), Bauchi (5), Kebbi (2), Kaduna(2), Katsina(2), Ondo(2), Abia(1), Niger(1).
No new state reported a case in 24 hours.
Till date, 12233 cases have been confirmed, 3826 cases have been discharged and 342 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government says 42 more Coronavirus patients have recovered and discharged from the state isolation centres.
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said in a statement on Saturday that the number of patients successfully managed and discharged was 994.
”Good people of Lagos, 42 fully recovered COVID-19 Lagos patients; 11 females and 31 males, have been discharged from our Isolation facilities today to reunite with the society.
”The patients; 20 from Gbagada, 11 from Eti-Osa (LandMark) and 11 from Lekki Isolation Centres, were discharged today after testing negative to COVID-19.
”This brings to 994, the number of #COVID-19 confirmed cases that have been successfully managed and discharged in Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu said.
